Maintaining the proper pH is critical for the chemical reactions in the real world as well as with the chemical reactions that occur in the body. In order to maintain homeostasis, the proper chemical composition inside the cells and the chemical composition of the fluids outside the cells must be kept relatively constant. The body has a wide array of mechanisms to maintain homeostasis in the blood and extracellular fluid. The most important way that the pH of the blood is kept relatively constant is by buffers dissolved in the blood.

Water 4Water is an essential component of all life. It comprises 70% of the Earth’s surface and 97% of Earth’s water is in the oceans, 2% is frozen in icecaps, 1% is fresh, but much of this is inaccessible, deep in the Earth. Water is also a vital component of the human body. We, human beings are 75% water and our blood is 90% water. Keeping these percentages in mind, think about how important water is to us and our survival.

For the Week 4’s Discussion we will be talking about the Importance of water and it’s important to your health. When discussing this topic in your initial post the following points must be addressed:Water

1. Discuss ways in which we obtain water?

2. How much water are you supposed to drink in a daily to maintain a healthy body? How do you ensure that you are drinking enough water on a daily basis?

3. What can happen if a person becomes too dehydrated? What happens when a person drinks too much water, how are they effected and how is their body effected?
