Learning Outcomes

This week students will:

  1. Distinguish between descriptive and inferential statistical analyses.
  2. Identify nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio data scales.
  3. Calculate basic descriptive statistics.

For Week One, the focus will be on the introduction of measures and numbers in day-to-day decision making. Statistics is the science of collecting, organizing, presenting, analyzing, and interpreting data to assist in making more effective decisions. In Chapter 2 of the course text, probability (the measure of the likelihood of an event that is more than just chance) is studied as a very important tool to be used within statistics to make decisions.
